Mini Washi Tape: A Complete Guide to All 9 RiN! Studio Designs
Mini washi tape might be small, but it's the format we hear about the most.
It's our $4.99 entry point — pocket-sized, no commitment, easy to throw into a pencil case or share with a journaling friend. And it's the format buyers come back to: "do you have one in [insert theme]?" is the most common question in our DMs.
So here it is, in one place: a full guide to all 9 RiN! Studio mini washi tape designs, what each one is best for, and a few honest notes on which ones to grab before they're gone.
What is Mini Washi Tape?
"Mini" in our shop refers to a specific format:
- 10 mm wide × 20 cm loop — slim enough to fit in journal margins and sticky notes
- Japanese washi paper — low-tack, repositionable, doesn't damage paper
- $4.99 each — about half the price of a full-loop tape
Think of it as the espresso shot version of washi tape. Smaller commitment, same kawaii art, easier to mix and layer.
Mini vs. Full-Loop Washi Tape
People ask this all the time, so here's the side-by-side:
| Mini Washi Tape | Full-Loop Washi Tape | |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 10 mm | 15 mm |
| Length | 20 cm loop | 3 m loop |
| Price | $4.99 | $9.99+ |
| Best for | Margins, accents, sticky notes, pen pal letters | Page borders, full headers, gift wrapping |
If you mostly journal in small notebooks (A6, Hobonichi-size, traveler's notebook), mini is the format that actually fits the space. If you're working in A5 or larger, full-loop gives you more dramatic coverage. Most of our customers buy both.

5 Ways to Use Mini Washi Tape
The format is unfussy, but here are five reliable techniques our team uses constantly:
- Diagonal corner accents: Three short strips at the top-left or bottom-right corner of a planner page. Instant decoration without committing the whole page.
- Habit tracker rows: A single strip behind each row of a weekly habit tracker, color-coded by category (sleep / water / movement / mood). Each tracker becomes a tiny rainbow.
- Snail mail seals: Wrap one strip across the envelope flap before sealing. It signals "this is a real letter, not junk mail" the second it arrives.
- Sticker backing: Lay a mini strip down first, then put a kawaii die-cut sticker on top. The tape becomes a colored "frame" around the sticker.
- Bookmark strip: Tape one strip vertically down the inside spine of a notebook to mark your current page. Reposition daily.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size is RiN! Studio mini washi tape?
Each roll is 10 mm wide × 20 cm long (in a loop format). About a third of the width of standard 15 mm washi tape.
How is mini washi tape different from full-loop washi tape?
Mini washi tape is 10 mm wide and 20 cm long, designed for journal margins, sticky notes, and small accents. Full-loop washi tape is 15 mm wide and 3 meters long, designed for page borders, full headers, and gift wrapping. They use the same Japanese washi paper material and same low-tack adhesive.
Are RiN! Studio mini washi tapes acid-free and archival-safe?
Yes. All RiN! Studio washi tape — mini and full-loop — uses traditional Japanese washi paper. It's low-tack, repositionable, and doesn't damage paper, so it's safe for bullet journals, photo albums, and Hobonichi-style planners.
Can mini washi tape stick to plastic or fabric?
It sticks best to paper. It will hold temporarily on smooth plastic, water bottles, and laptop cases, but it's not designed to be a permanent surface tape. For long-term outdoor or fabric use, vinyl stickers are a better fit.
Which mini washi tape design is best for bullet journaling?
Coffee and Have a Nice Day are the most universally useful — they work in habit trackers, weekly spreads, and gratitude pages. Dream and Flowers are favorites for monthly cover pages. For seasonal spreads, Halloween (October) and Aloha Hawaii (June – August) are the obvious picks.
Are these mini washi tapes the same as King Jim Kitta?
Not quite. Mini washi tape is a continuous 20 cm loop you cut yourself. King Jim Kitta is a different format — pre-cut individual strips in a pocket-sized booklet, no cutting needed. We make both. They're complementary, not competing.
